Thomas Hastings, 64 years of age, was a greaser in the Merchant Navy, He lost his life when his ship, the SS Tacoma Star was hit by three torpedoes fired by the U-boat u-109 387 miles north of Bermuda, and sank with all hands on May 3 1941. He was the son of T.& Elizabeth Hastings; nephew of  Mary Myers, of South Shields, Co. Durham.
